If asked to describe myself I would say I am a Christian wife, mother, teacher, and book lover. It is a simple description, but one that sums up what is most important to me.
I have called Huntingdon, Tennessee, home for most of my life. I am a Huntingdon High School and Bethel College graduate. I actually met the love of my life, Tommy, in 11th grade American History class, and we have been happily married for over 27 years. We have two amazing children: our daughter, Shalane, is a Huntingdon High School and Lipscomb University graduate who lives and works in Nashville, and our son, Justin, is a Columbia Academy graduate and a current junior at the University of Memphis. Both of our children are intelligent, independent, hard working, compassionate, faithful adults who make us proud every day. We especially love when they bring their friends home and fill our house with laughter and light.
I began my teaching career 21 years ago right here at Clarksburg School where I taught 7-12 grade English in various combinations for 7 years. I then returned to my alma mater to teach 10th and 11th grade English for 8 years. In 2011 we moved to Columbia, Tennessee, for my husband's job. While there I taught 10th and 12th grade English and yearbook at Columbia Academy, a small private Christian school. Four years later my husband transferred back to West Tennessee, mainly because I missed home so much! Upon our return, I spent one year teaching in Henry County before getting the call that brought me back to where it all began - Clarksburg School!
I am sure it is no surprise that an English teacher loves to read, but I might love it a little more than normal. During breaks I read a book a day. There are very few things I'd rather do than curl up with a book and get lost in a fictional world. An added thrill comes from discussing books with others (hence the English teacher career choice). While I was not raised in a reading home (I used to get in trouble for reading instead of playing outside), I now live in a house filled with books where it is not unusual to find each of the four Malones with a book in hand or discussing something he or she recently read. Maybe that is why my happy place is my home where books and the people I love co-exist in perfect harmony!
